After having seen Step Up 2, I have something to say to the people that write scripts for dance movies:
If you are not a trained ballet dancer (this includes breakdancers, hip hop dancers, krump dancers, tap dancers, ballroom dancers, etc.) these is absolutely no chance that if you audition for a ballet school or company that you will get in. None at all. This will never happen. Even if you are in the best hip hop/breaking/krump/street dancer crew to have ever existed, you still will not ever get in to a ballet company or school, unless you are also a trained ballet dancer.
Also, if you have only ever been a ballet dancer, it is highly unlikely that you can approach a "crew" or "fam" on the streets, show them your ballet, and have them decide to teach you how to break dance/hip hop/krump/etc. It is also unlikely that this same "crew" or "fam" will decide to let you in to their "crew" or "fam" because you are a ballet dancer, not a break dance/hip hop/krump/etc., dancer. Also, this "Crew" or "fam" will most probably not give up their chosen style of dance to become ballet dancers.
As you can tell, these movies bug me. I know, it's Hollywood, none of it is real, but still, none of these things that they seem to have been making way too many dance movies out of are ever going to happen. Ever.
Stay on your toes,
Selly
