My friend and colleague, Allison Nazarian, runs a successful copywriting business called Get it in Writing . Last week, she sent an e-newsletter with her thoughts on goal setting. Read it if you get a chance, but the long story short is that if you have no plan, you will get no results. Wherever results are expected - including losing 50 pounds by a 40th birthday - a thorough plan is a must.
So, with Allison's inspirational message, I decided to dedicate today's post to revisitng my goal and specific plan. Goal Lose 50 pounds by April 20, 2009 Progress 17.5 pounds lost in four months Remaining 31.5 pounds to lose in eight months The Plan To lose one to two pounds per week, I will do the following: 1. Count calories - At my current weight, I need to eat between approximately 1,900 calories per day (including exercise) to hit my goal for the year. As my weight goes down, so will my calorie needs, so this number will change. I will focus on balance each day...fruits, vegetables, protein, good fats, and high fiber carbs. I will make a grocery list, plan out meals, and get to the store consistently each week to avoid having to go out or order in, remembering that pizza is not a recommended daily intake ;-) 2. Exercise - I will fit in a minimum of 45 to 60 minutes of exercise three days a week but will strive for 60 minutes five days a week. I will wake up and exercise before school and work; otherwise, the day's planned and unplanned activities hijack the exercise time. I am working through the part of the plan called "mentality" and will post that plan later this week. Let's just say that a big part of this will be saying "no" and getting rid of negative parts of my life that take away from my goal. Here's how today went food wise: Breakfast 1 egg and 1 egg white scrambled 1 T. Smart Balance spread (for pan and bread) 1 whole wheat bagel square 1/2 c. oj Lunch turkey, cheese, pretzels small cookie package Dinner mixed green salad w/ gorgonzola cheese, red peppers, tomatoes, walnuts (this was in a bread bowl, but I did not eat it) dips of balsamic vinagrette house dressing small slice of chicken parmesan sandwhich |
